Front Clip Harness -There are many different options, but the most popular are the Easy Walk®, Sense-ation®, Balance® and Freedom® Harness. These have the same benefits as a standard harness with the added benefit of preventing pulling and are a great training tool to help teach a dog to walk on a loose leash. If you have one, please bring it to class, if you are hesitant to purchase one due to fit, I can lend a hand.
Leash - For our training purposes, you will need a standard 6-8’ leash. Leashes provide us a connection between ourselves and our dogs. They provide safety for our dogs by preventing them from running away and there are leash laws in most urban centers. (No Flexi Leashes please).
Collar - for class, we don't clip to the collar, but if you don't have a harness, or the collar is where your dog wears their ID, please have your dog wear it.
Treats - A cup full of pea sized treats. Your dog's kibble, dried liver treats (Benny Bullies) broken into small pieces work great as low and medium value treats. You can also use other tiny tasty treats to motivate your dog such as cut up hot dogs or boiled chicken, this would be your high value reinforcer, for those situations that the other rewards just wont do! Having a mix is Ideal.
Treat Pouch - having treats in your pocket is acceptable, but it's sometimes awkward if you pocket is tough to get in and out of. I recommend a treat pouch that clips to your belt, or one that has its own belt.
I urge you to have the correct equipment for our sessions or classes. If you need a hand sizing or ensuring you are getting the right item, please let me know, I'm happy to lend a hand. Some training equipment I do keep on hand for purchase.
*No Prong, Shock Collars or Flexi Leashes please.
