Adolescence usually begins around 6 months of age and can last until 18–24 months, depending on your dog’s breed and personality. It’s a messy, normal stage where behavior often feels like it’s gone backward—even if you did puppy training!
Not at all. In fact, adolescence is a perfect time to refocus your training. Your dog’s brain is changing fast—they’re testing boundaries, struggling with impulse control, and learning how to handle the world. The right training now sets the tone for adulthood.
This is one of the most common things we hear! Adolescent dogs often “forget” cues they knew as puppies. It’s not stubbornness—they’re easily overwhelmed, distracted, or emotionally flooded. We’ll help you rebuild focus, confidence, and communication.
It depends on your dog’s current behavior:
That’s exactly what Surviving Adolescence is for! We specialize in dogs with big feelings. You’ll learn how to support your dog through tough moments using modern, science-backed methods based on connection, not correction.
Nope! You can start where your dog is at. Some dogs begin in Surviving Adolescence class, and move into Foundations 1 once they’re ready. Others start directly in Foundations. We’re happy to help you map out a plan.
Yes, absolutely! We encourage all members of your dog’s household to be part of the learning process whenever possible.

When it comes to an animal’s learning and behavior, there’s no such thing as a guaranteed training result. No one can predict a dog’s (or anyone’s) behavior without fail. Because of this, training results can’t be guaranteed—but I do guarantee to set you and your dog up for success. I’ll provide the support you need throughout the training process to bring out the best in your furry friend.
